BRANSON, Mo., February 8, 2013 — Roller Coaster enthusiasts have been excitedly awaiting the anticipated opening of the world class record breaking wooden roller coaster Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City for its 2013 season since its announcement in mid August of 2012. They got the first indication of what is in store as the completed coaster started its final testing today. Today’s testing included coach train cycling over the course of the track fully loaded with “water dummies” simulating the average weight of humans and was witnessed by members of the media. This link, to a 53 second video of the actual test ,provides a Point of View (POV) look at what the dummies experienced and what the riders of Outlaw Run can expect, the ride of their lives!
When the coaster was initially announced, Brad Thomas, senior vice president, Silver Dollar City Attractions said “Our Silver Dollar City fans told us they wanted a new thrill attraction…We pushed to take the classic wood coaster to a place it’s never been before by applying modern technology and techniques to traditional wood coaster building methods. The result is a wood coaster with never-done-before thrill elements.” Themed around the stagecoach travels in the old west, Outlaw Run’ will take its riders on a breath taking 1 minute 27 second ride, including a 81 degree, nearly vertical, initial drop of 16 stories, and a record breaking three inversions aboard the custom-designed “stagecoach” trains of “Silver Dollar City’s Western Missouri Stagecoach Company.”
“Outlaw Run is yet another exciting example of why Silver Dollar City is Branson’s oldest and most popular paid attraction,” said Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center, one of Branson’s largest and most respected vacation planning services. “What more could a roller coaster enthusiast ask for as Outlaw Run joins the parks other two world class coaster rides ‘PowderKeg,’ a compressed air-launch coaster that accelerates from 0 to 53 MPH in just 2.8 seconds and the iconic ‘Wildfire’ a 66 mile per hour multi-looping steel coaster.” Johnson points out that when you buy your Silver Dollar City tickets from the Branson Tourism Center you get a two day pass for the price of one day.
