Family Passes show the way to big savings on Branson Shows

Three generations of Presley comedy, Herkimer, Grandpa; Cecil, Son and Cecil Jr. Grandson

BRANSON, MO, February 26, 2013 — “In these times, families on vacation are looking for ways to not only have fun together, but to save money,” said Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center. With all there is to see and do in Branson there is never a problem having fun. With lodging available for just about any budget and the savings that can result from “packaging,” attractions, shows and lodging together it’s easy to save money too,” she continued.

Branson’s live shows are legend for their outstanding entertainment and value. Some of Branson’s best shows have made that value even more so with the addition of “Family Passes.” Although they are different for different shows, under the general scheme of things the Family Pass will include two adults and up to a certain number of children for a substantially reduced rate.

As an example, Presleys’ Country Jubilee is one of Branson’s most popular shows and is a great music and comedy show for the whole family. By using its Family Pass, a family of two adults, one teenager and two children ages 10 and 11 can save over 41% off the price of buying them separately. Will Silver Dollar City’s iconic Wildfire be eclipsed by Outlaw Run?

Silver Dollar City's iconic Wildfire metal coaster will be joined by...

BRANSON, MO, February 24, 2013 — The iconic photo of Silver Dollar City‘s Wildfire Coaster has been seen by millions of people interested in Branson and Silver Dollar City and for good reason. “Wildfire ” is a world class metal coaster that not only provides one of the most exciting and exhilarating coaster rides on the planet, but an unparallel view of the surrounding Ozarks including, even if only for a brief exciting moment, a view of Table Rock Lake. It reaches speeds up to 66 MPH and incorporates five inversions including high-speed spirals, a cobra roll, a full loop and a corkscrew after its initial vertical 15 story drop. It has been the undisputed “king” of Silver Dollar City’s four coaster rides, in terms of height, speed and twists and turns.

When Silver Dollar City opens for its 2013 Branson season on March 17 all that is about to change with the addition of the park’s fifth coaster ride to its line up, “Outlaw Run.” Whereas Wildfire is a metal coaster, Outlaw Run is a world record setting wooden coaster. After a wooden coaster record setting 16 story 81 degree near vertical drop, its riders will travel at speeds up to 68 miles per hour on the world’s only wooden coaster to twist upside down with a 720-degree (double) barrel roll, and nine periods of “air time” where riders will experience a feeling of floating and weightlessness.

the world record setting wooden coaster Outlaw Run.

Will the pictures of the new Outlaw Run eclipse the iconic status of photos of Wildfire? Who knows, but does it really make any difference? Which coaster achieves iconic status will be of little import to the riders of Wildfire and Outlaw Run as they have a coaster experience not available anywhere else.

It’s an experience that just gets better when the parks other three unique coaster rides, “Fire in the Hole, “”Powder Keg” and “Thunderation” are factored in. “Fire-In-The-Hole,” a unique indoor coaster taking its riders on a night time trip through an Ozarks town that has been set on fire by the infamous “Baldknobbers and is filled with adventure, high-speed drops and an exciting ending. “PowderKeg ” is a compressed air-launch coaster that accelerates from the “Powder House” going from 0 to 53 MPH in just 2.8 seconds and takes its riders through spiraling turns and trees at speeds up to 64 MPH after its initial 110 foot drop. “Thunderation” is a high-speed coaster that takes its riders 121 feet before sending them on an exciting ride providing a scenic view of the Ozarks at speeds up to 48 MPH before a spiraling drop and trip through an underground tunnel.

“With all the excitement about Outlaw Run opening this year and the parks other coasters, it should be remembered that the internationally award winning 1880s theme park is Branson’s oldest and most popular paid attraction featuring six world class festivals, dozens of demonstrating craftsmen, some of the best live shows and entertainment available in Branson and over 30 rides,” said Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center (BTC), one of Branson’s largest and most respected vacation planning services. Johnson points out that Silver Dollar City Tickets purchased through the Branson Tourism Center give the purchaser two exciting fun filled days at the park for the price of one. For additional information or tickets for Silver Dollar City or any of Branson’s other shows and attractions or for lodging arrangements please feel free to contact BTC through its toll free number 1-800-785-1550.

Unique gathering of Titanic authors in Branson

Titanic Museum Attraction

The Titanic Museum Attraction towers above the famed Branson Strip.

BRANSON, MO, February 19, 2019 — “Even today, over 100 years after the tragic sinking of the unsinkable RMS Titanic in the frigid water of the North Atlantic, the public has a keen interest and fascination with the circumstances surrounding its sinking,” said Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center. “Nowhere is there a better or more exciting place to kindle that interest and experience what happened on that fateful voyage than aboard Branson’s Titanic Museum Attraction,” she added.

Johnson points out that there is always a new and exciting reason to take a voyage on the Titanic each year and that 2013 will be no exception. This year a new exhibit will be dedicated to the 133 children who were aboard the Titanic when she sank. “What they saw, heard and felt from the moment they boarded the ship has been documented and visualized for the first time anywhere” in this exhibit, Mary Kellogg-Joslyn, the Titanic Museum Attraction’s co-owner, said recently.

Another unique and special event at the Titanic this year will an historic first time gathering and book signing of six “celebrated authors of Titanic historical books and novels” who will make their public appearances together on Monday, March 18 through Saturday, March 23 from 10 AM to 5 PM at the Titanic Museum Attraction’s “First Annual Book Signing Fair.”

In making the announcement, Kellogg-Joslyn pointed out that many books have been written over the years since her sinking about what happened that night. The six day event provides a unique opportunity for Titanic fans and others interested in the Titanic or history to meet and interact with the authors of many of these books who will each have their separate area inside the museum.

“We know that Titanic books are the biggest selling items in our gift shop. Grown-ups and children alike are drawn to them.  Perhaps, because the written word can stir emotion and imagination unlike anything else,” says Kellogg-Joslyn.   “Each book, in its own way, is a chronicle of faith, heroism, sacrifice and survival.  They line the shelves of libraries and private homes around the world, and we’re proud to be one of the largest repositories of Titanic books, anywhere.”

The Authors appearing at the event and the title of their key Titanic work are Lee W. Merideth, “1912 Facts about Titanic;” Bruce M. Caplan, “The Sinking of the Titanic – 1912 Survivor Accounts. Logan Marshall’s original 1912 classic, abridged and edited;” Helen Behr Sanford, “Starboard at Midnight – The Love Story of Two Survivors;” Ken Rossignol, “Titanic 1912 – The Original News Stories;” Wade Sisson, “Racing Through the Night” and Kristen Iversen, “Molly Brown: Unraveling the Myth – The True Life Story of the Titanic’s Most Famous Survivor.” Appearing with her, on March 19 and March 20 only, will be Helen Benziger the great-grand-daughter of “Helen Tobin ‘Molly’ Brown.”

Please feel free to contact the Branson Tourism Center for additional information or tickets for the Titanic Museum Attraction or any of Branson’s other shows and attractions or for lodging by calling their toll free number 1-800-785-1550.

The Bradford House – a unique “feel at home” place from which to experience Branson

Even in the dead of Winter it is hard to hide the natural Ozark beauty that surrounds the Bradford House.

BRANSON, Mo., February 15, 2013 — “From the ‘four diamond’ luxury of the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel to the quaint friendly warmth of B & Bs such as the Bradford House Bread & Breakfast Inn , Branson offers a choice of lodging accommodations for every budget and taste,” said Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center. “Known for the unique decor of its rooms, the delicious home-cooked ‘Bradford breakfasts’ and personal service; it is an exceptional example of Ozarks hospitality, comfort and friendliness as the Westfall family welcomes and serves its guests,” she added.

The 20 room Victorian style bed and breakfast is ideally located within minutes of the heart of the Branson Strip yet is snuggled away in a secluded area surrounded by the natural beauty of the Ozarks. It’s hominess and friendliness is directly attributable to the day to day involvement of the Westfall family in the operation the Bradford House, but that has been the case ever since 1994 when the Westfalls first started welcoming and serving Branson’s guests.

One of 20 differently decorated rooms.

The whole Bradford House experience from check-in, to the décor of the rooms, breakfast, interaction with the staff and just relaxing “around the house” is designed to give its guests that comfortable relaxing “feel at home feeling” while on vacation. Yet there is that attention to detail, such as each of the 20 rooms being warmly and tastefully decorated differently, the “famous ‘Bradford Beds’ with their high-thread count linens and equally famous breakfasts, more than likely prepared by Bob Jr., the son of the founders of Bradford Properties, Bob and Lucyanna Westfall, that adds to the uniqueness and enjoyment of a stay at the Bradford House.

The “living room” and reception area provides that extra space away from the room to relax in and it’s almost like home to be able to “step into the kitchen for coffee, tea, soda or water anytime.” Yet, with all its homey warmth and charm it offers a full set of modern amenities including outdoor pool, free Wi Fi with in-room Internet, cable and much more.

The Bradford House is located off of Highway 165 and Fall Creek Road providing the best of two worlds. A beautiful quiet sanctuary in the midst of the beauty of the Ozarks and convenient access to all that Branson has to offer. It’s within 15 minutes of Silver Dollar City or Branson Landing and less than five minutes from the Branson Strip and all the shows, attractions, shopping and other activities it offers.

Kirby VanBurch Finds Permanent Home On Branson Strip

Award winning magician Kirby VanBurch and one of his exotic cats.

BRANSON, MO, February 9, 2013 Kirby VanBurch, internationally renowned entertainer and illusionist, announced today that he has signed for permanent residency at a theater on Branson’s world famous West 76 Highway, fondly known as “the strip”. Kirby VanBurch has played at multiple different theaters throughout his 20 plus year career in Branson.  Kirby says, “I’ve long joked about being one of the only entertainers in Branson actually touring Branson; so to be able to say that I’ve found my permanent home is really exciting; especially as me and the cats are ready to settle down.”  Kirby’s new home at 1835 W 76 Country Boulevard will be renamed the Kirby VanBurch Theatre.

“This theater is perfect for my show.  I like to have an intimate setting with my audiences so I can interact with them.” VanBurch adds, “This Theater has the space to allow me to do up close and personal magic and at the same time pull off some big illusions.”  The new Kirby VanBurch Theatre (formerly known as Music City Centre) will also be home to Kirby’s famous Big Cats as well as his other furry (and not so furry) friends. “We’re in the process of doing some remodeling on the stage and should be able to open for shows on March 15 at 8:00pm,” says Kirby. “Along with the remodel we’re adapting the illusions to the new stage.  Luckily, we’re quite familiar with the theater as Bambi was signed to do her own show there for three months in 2009 and we created specials illusions for her for that run.  Of course she’ll be featured in my show again this year.”

“We share Kirby’s excitement at finding a permanent Branson “home” on the strip” said Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center. “He has been a Branson magic staple for over 20 years and his signature exotic animals adds a unique element to an already ‘magical’ show.” Johnson invites anyone wanting additional information or tickets for the Kirby VanBurch Show to call the Branson Tourism Center, toll free at 1-800-785-1550.

Dummies test record breaking $10 million Outlaw Run

Test of Outlaw Run's world breaking 16 story 81 Degree initial drop.

BRANSON, Mo., February 8, 2013 — Roller Coaster enthusiasts have been excitedly awaiting the anticipated opening of the world class record breaking wooden roller coaster Outlaw Run at Silver Dollar City for its 2013 season since its announcement in mid August of 2012. They got the first indication of what is in store as the completed coaster started its final testing today. Today’s testing included coach train cycling over the course of the track fully loaded with “water dummies” simulating the average weight of humans and was witnessed by members of the media. This link, to a 53 second video of the actual test ,provides a Point of View (POV) look at what the dummies experienced and what the riders of Outlaw Run can expect, the ride of their lives!

When the coaster was initially announced, Brad Thomas, senior vice president, Silver Dollar City Attractions said “Our Silver Dollar City fans told us they wanted a new thrill attraction…We pushed to take the classic wood coaster to a place it’s never been before by applying modern technology and techniques to traditional wood coaster building methods. The result is a wood coaster with never-done-before thrill elements.” Themed around the stagecoach travels in the old west, Outlaw Run’ will take its riders on a breath taking 1 minute 27 second ride, including a 81 degree, nearly vertical, initial drop of 16 stories, and a record breaking three inversions aboard the custom-designed “stagecoach” trains of “Silver Dollar City’s Western Missouri Stagecoach Company.”

“Outlaw Run is yet another exciting example of why Silver Dollar City is Branson’s oldest and most popular paid attraction,” said Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center, one of Branson’s largest and most respected vacation planning services. “What more could a roller coaster enthusiast ask for as Outlaw Run joins the parks other two world class coaster rides ‘PowderKeg,’ a compressed air-launch coaster that accelerates from 0 to 53 MPH in just 2.8 seconds and the iconic ‘Wildfire’ a 66 mile per hour multi-looping steel coaster.” Johnson points out that when you buy your Silver Dollar City tickets from the Branson Tourism Center you get a two day pass for the price of one day. “Ayo” plus “it” equals 5 letters and 2 great Branson shows

"Voices of Glory," Michael, Avery and Nadia Cole, during guest performance at 2012 CAM Gospel Sing-Off.

BRANSON, MO, February 4, 2013 – In announcing that “Ayo” would be appearing at the Hughes Brothers Theatre along with it, Jeff Topper, Director of Sales for the Hughes Brothers Theatre, did not mention the fact that there is not another theatre marquee in Branson that could announce it was presenting two shows and only take up a total of five letters. What he did say however was, “At the Hughes Brothers Theatre we’re already open with our hit show it and we’re excited about adding another upbeat show like ‘Ayo’ starring ‘Voices of Glory’ to our theatre line-up.”

“The Voices of Glory,” siblings Michael, Avery and Nadia Cole who started singing together in 2007 when they sang to their mother who was in a coma as the result of “a head-on collision with a drunk driver.” Their mother came out of the coma, those who heard the Coles sing realized they were hearing something special, they adopted the stage name “Voices of Glory,” kept on singing and in 2009 ended up as a top five finalist on the NBC prime time hit show, America’s Got Talent. Since then, among other things, toured “internationally, performing at the Annual GMA’s Dove Awards, the 2010 & 2011 ICM Awards, at Madison Square Garden, were a featured act in ‘Andy William’s 2012 Christmas Show,'” and performed in “Germany for Weihnachtszauber.”

Jason Hughes, one of the Hughes Brothers co-producing the show said, “In Ayo we’re taking the audience on a journey of joy using song, dance, lights, and the personalities of Michael, Avery, and Nadia, backed up by a live band.” In describing the show, Nadia Cole said, “Ayo adds another level to the Branson show mix. While Ayo features our original music, and of course our gospel favorites, it also reaches out to visitors of all ages with current and familiar songs that speak to the musical soul.” Michael Cole said, “We love the music and we love what music can do for people.  In Ayo we want the audience to feel what we feel when we sing – a pure call to joy!” and his brother Avery adds, “Ayo is also a slang term for ‘Hey you’…and we’re hoping that just like that term reaches out and grabs your attention…that Ayo will reach out and grab your heart!”

Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center, congratulates both the Hughes Brother’s Theatre staff and Voices of Glory on the new show. She points out that although Ayo’s premier is not until March 18 that it at the Hughes Brothers Theatre opened its 2013 season in January and is currently running a full schedule of shows. For additional information or tickets for “Ayo,” “it” or any of Branson’s other shows and attractions or for lodging arrangements please contact the Branson Tourism Center through their toll free number 1-800-785-1550.

Grand Jubilee just might be Branson’s grandest entertainment

"New South," Trey Wilson, left, Jason Robinson, Mark McCauley and David Price, during their opening set.

BRANSON, MO, February 1, 2013 — In a previous review of the Grand Jubilee this writer said, “It might seem like a cliché, but the Grand Jubilee is truly ‘grand’ entertainment. I laughed until I hurt, listened to some of the most talented musicians and vocalists I have ever heard, in Branson or anywhere else, and was thoroughly entertained by a fast moving production that held my interest throughout. It was over all too quickly.” After seeing the new 2013 edition of this show on January 25 of this year all this writer can say is “Ditto.”

In that review it was pointed out that the elements of the show aren’t that much different from the Branson variety show mold that was cast by the Baldknobbers over 52 years ago and has worked so successfully for so many Branson shows. They have vocals, a live band and comedy, but that’s like saying because a pie has ingredients 1, 2 and 3 that it’s going to be a great pie. It’s not the elements or ingredients by themselves, but the the quality of the talent involved with each element and how they are woven together that makes the Grand Jubilee the “grand” entertainment experience it is.

The main vocal element of the show features “New South,” one of Branson’s premier male quartets, composed of lead vocalist, Trey Wilson, tenor Jason Robinson, baritone David Price and bass Mark McCauley. Individually these guys have great voices, but when they sing together it is a WOW blow your socks off kind of thing not only in terms of the vocals themselves, but their energy and ability to convey the feeling to the audience that they are not just going through the motions, but having a good time.

New South performs a variety of music from many different genres including pop, country, gospel, patriotic, gospel and more covering decades of hits. As important as what they sing is how they sing it. In this writers opinion, as good as each is individually, combined they have a power, voice range and synergy that is amazing. Although certainly subjective the group’s performance of “Antioch Church House Choir,” featuring Trey Wilson ,”Elvira,” featuring the bass voice of Bass Mark McCauley  and “YMCA” are a few of many numbers illustrating not only New South’s vocal talent, but their ability to get the audience invested in the performance, the shows excellent costuming and some great moves. And speaking of “moves,” you won’t believe the moves Mark McCauley makes during the group’s performance of “YMCA.”

The beautiful and talented Jackie Brown,

The female vocalist is the extremely talented Jackie Brown. She performed a variety of music throughout the show demonstrating her considerable vocal talents. Her spirited rendition of the Dolly Parton song, “Baby I’m Burning” illustrates why it was one of Dolly’s favorite songs and her duet with Trey Wilson of “You Don’t Know Me” was simply beautiful.

It’s hard to describe just how good the “Grand Band” is and what an integral part of the show they are. It is composed of Michael W. Davis, Piano/Keyboard & Vocals; Wayne Massengale, Fiddle and Acoustic Guitar; Larry Allred, Bass Guitar; Rob Blackburn, Drums; Matt Hanshaw, Lead and Acoustic Guitar and Gene Mulvaney, Steel Guitar, Electric Guitar, Banjo & Band Director.

These guys just don’t sit back and play, they are seamlessly worked into many of the numbers of the show with featured segments in a way that makes the Grand Jubilee show unique among Branson shows. These guys are some of the most talented instrumentalists in Branson, both individually and collectively, enjoy what they are doing and convey that enjoyment to their audience. Two Band highlights was their rendition of what I believe was “The Grand Bounce” and Wayne Massengale’s fiddle duet of “Orange Blossom Special” Jamie Haage, who is also the show’s comedian.

"Jim Dandy," Jammie Haage, left and his faithful straight-man, the shows emcee and producer, Mike Patrick.

The multi-talented, Jamie Haage, who is one of Branson’s best comedians is the shows comedian and does an hilariously funny job of playing “Jim Dandy.” You’ve heard of “dark comedy,” well welcome to “orange comedy,” where, strategically placed throughout the show, Jim Dandy, along with his straight man, the shows Emcee Mike Patrick, will have you laughing until you hurt with a blend of comedy and one liners. It’s safe to say that after experiencing this show you will have a newly found appreciation for just how funny and magical a banana can be. Watching the metamorphosis of Haage from comedian to instrumentalist and vocalist is a special and unique thing to see and hear and testifies as to the versatility and talents of this “grand” entertainer.

No review of the Grand Jubilee would be complete without mentioning the shows Director and Producer Mike Patrick who is also the shows Emcee, Jim Dandy’s straight man and even plays a mean honky-tonk piano. This show is a wonderful blend of great music, comedy and fun that is simply a joy to see, hear, and experience. From its opening number to its stirring patriotic finale, the Grand Jubilee is a ‘grand’ entertainment experience that just might be two of the best and fastest moving hours of entertainment in Branson.

Midwest Living designates Branson as a “Great Midwest Winter Weekend Escape”

Open, even in the snow, the distinctive earthquake look of "Ripley's Believe" It Or Not" makes it one of the most identifiable buildings in the world.

BRANSON, Mo., January 28, 2013 — “We thought it was ‘cool’ when Branson was designated as one of the 25 Coolest Midwest Lake Vacation Spots by ‘Midwest Living'” in the summer of 2011, but Midwest Living’s recent designation of Branson as one of the 15 Great Midwest Winter Weekend Escapes is really ‘cool,'” said Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center. “That’s one of the great things about Branson, summer or winter, it’s always a ‘cool’ place to have fun, be entertained, shop, simply relax, or enjoy any of the many other exciting activities Branson offers year round for individuals, families, reunions and groups of all types,” she continued.

In designating Branson as one of the ’15 Great Midwest Winter Weekend Escapes’ the article specifically mentions the beauty of the woods around Table Rock Lake, the simple joy of sipping hot chocolate and enjoying Branson’s “winter landscape from the other side of a picture window.” It emphasizes that even in January and February “the weather is often mild enough by Midwest standards (average highs in the 40s and 50s) to fish and golf” and that “some of Branson’s shows also continue through the winter.”

Johnson points out that although not mentioned in the article, the vast majority of Branson’s major attractions remain open year round. From a Lake Taneycomo sightseeing or dinner cruise with Main Street Lake Cruises to a voyage on the Titanic; Hollywood Wax Museum and Ripleys Believe It or Not to Tigers and Zipliners, even in the winter tBranson offers a myriad of fun and exciting things for Branson visitors to do. Summer or winter, Branson’s famed shopping remains a constant with its three major shopping malls remaining open along with Dicks 5 & 10 and most of Branson’s specialty shops

Branson was the only Missouri destination selected. Beside Branson, the other 14 Midwest Living “Great Midwest Winter Weekend Escapes” were, in alphabetical order, Bayfield, Wisconsin; Black Hills, South Dakota; Brainerd, Minnesota; Canoe Bay, Wisconsin; Chicago, Illinois; Crystal Mountain, Michigan; Dearborn, Michigan; Door County, Wisconsin; Hocking Hills, Ohio; Old Mission Peninsula, Michigan; Parke County, Indiana; Southwest Lake Michigan shore, St. Croix River, Wisconsin and Minnesota and Upper Peninsula, Michigan.

New 2013 Branson show season has Grand opening

Jarrett Dougherty the comedian in the "Pierce Arrow Show "cutting" up with members of the Pierce Arrow Quartet.

BRANSON, Mo., January 24, 2013 — “One of the many great things about Branson is the anticipation and excitement that the opening of each new show season in Branson brings as its shows incorporate new innovations, numbers, routines, acts, costuming and  choreography into their performances to provide their audiences with a fresh entertainment experience,” said Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center. Mike Patrick, General Manager & Producer of the Grand Jubilee show and the other shows at the “Grand Country Music Hall” agrees.

Patrick said, “When Grand Jubilee opened its 2013 Season on January 1, about 70 percent of the show’s music and 50 percent of its comedy was new.” He points out that there are certain musical numbers such as New South’s performance of “YMCA” and comedy routines that the audience expects and looks forward to that tend to stay in from year to year until there is an indication that the audiences wants a change. Patrick said that to have the 2013 version of Grand Jubilee ready for January 1 they began rehearsals in early November even as they performed their 2012 Christmas shows.

Typically, and 2013 was no exception, it is the new Grand Jubilee that leads Branson shows into their new season. Other shows have started their new 2013 Branson season during January and, as of today, The Official Show Schedule of Branson.Com, powered by the Branson Tourism Center, indicates that by the end of February the following shows, listed alphabetically with links provided to scheduling, pricing and other information, will be open:
