Southwest Airlines shares the LUV with Branson

Missouri Governor, Jay Nixon, welcoming Southwest Airlines to Branson.

BRANSON, Mo., August 27, 2012 — Southwest Airlines was welcomed to Branson in typical Branson style. The “Pep Rally” themed event was lead off by a welcoming parade down the Branson Landing Promenade, featuring dignitaries, the Branson High School Marching Band, Color Guard and Cheerleaders, followed by a welcoming ceremony and entertainment by Branson entertainers at the Branson Landing Fountains.

Speakers at the ceremony included Steve Peet, Branson Airport, CEO; Peter and Jack Herschend, co-founders of Silver Dollar City; Tony Orlando; Johnny Morris, Founder and CEO of Bass Pro Shops; Bob Montgomery, Vice President of Airport Affairs for Southwest Airlines, and Missouri Governor Jay Nixon. With a slight change to the title, the theme song for the event, based on the speeches and the crowd’s reaction to Southwest’s announcement of Branson service, could have been, “Can You Feel The LUV Tonight,” from “The Lion King.”

Earlier in the day Southwest Airlines, who, with 3200 flights per day, is the Nation’s “largest carrier in terms of originating domestic passengers boarded,” had announced that Branson would become the “79th destination to its route map with service” scheduled to start on March 9, 2013. This initial service will begin with daily flights offering nonstop service to Dallas Love Field, Houston Hobby and Chicago Midway with Saturday-only service to Orlando. Southwest will assume all flying from AirTran Airways, its wholly owned subsidiary, with AirTran’s operations at Branson fully converting to Southwest Airlines.

“‘Southwest Airlines is proud to bring low fares, great Customer Service, and our red-bellied 737s to Branson,” said Bob Montgomery, Southwest Airlines’ Vice President of Airport Affairs. “We are looking forward to serving the community and offering more new destinations to Branson Customers.'”

Sharon Budnick, the Director of the Branson Travel Agency, a division of Branson Tourism Center (BTC), said that the Southwest announcement is wonderful news for Branson and provides yet another choice for those wanting to fly to Branson. She also points out that in celebration of the new service “Southwest announced a fare sale of $79* one-way between Branson and Dallas (Love Field), Chicago (Midway), or Houston (Hobby) as well as $99 to Orlando” for travel between March 9, 2013, and April 11, 2013 providing fares are booked by Sept. 6, 2012. Budnick said she would be happy to answer any questions on the new Southwest Service or the celebratory fare sale.  She can be reached by calling the Branson Travel Agency at 1-800-785-2176 or through its website www.BransonTravelAgency.

3 Redneck Tenors is an incredible vocal journey

Billy Billee (L), Billy Bob and Billy Joe, The 3 Tenorinas, performing at the "Masonic Lodge and Catfish Farm

BRANSON, Mo., August 25, 2012 —  After seeing the 3 Redneck Tenors show in each of its last two seasons in Branson and just having seen the 2012 version this week, all that can be said is that the 2012 edition is a completely different experience that takes an already unique and entertaining show and makes it, exponentially, even more so. From the git-go, one thing should be made perfectly clear, although the story line of the first half of the show is based on the entertaining and funny adventures of three loveable Texas Rednecks who have great vocal talent, as they transition from being unknowns in Paris, Texas, to performing on Broadway and in Carnegie Hall in New York City, it is the vocal performance of the shows star’s that is the heart and soul of the show.

The 3 Redneck Tenors is funny; has a very talented live band, composed of David Cassavitis, Musical Director; Paul Houser, Guitar; Tim Pope, Percussion; Matt Skates, Bass and Tom Eckert, Violin; lots of colorful costuming and an amusing funny story line. However, it is all of that in combination with the magnificent vocals of the show’s stars, “Billy Joe,” performed by Tenor Matthew Lord; “Billy Bob,” performed by Tenor Alex Bumpas, and “Billy Billee,” performed by Baritone, Blake Davidson that make this show such a unique and special experience. Each of them has  extensive operatic experience which is displayed over a wide variety of music ranging from their compound version of “Ave Maria” and “Dixie,” “Hound Dog” to “The Impossible Dream” and the inspirational “Nessun Dorma.

The shows Redneck theme is played out during the first half of the show, starting with a Redneck memorial service that adds new meaning to the term, “Chip off the old block;” the discovery of the 3 Redneck Tenors by the “Colonel,” performed by Dinny McGuire and their journey from unknown obscurity to stardom along with the realization of their dreams. The journey is an exciting, fun filled and fast paced “adventure” filled with colorful costuming changes, wonderful humor and absolutely great vocals. This writer’s favorite stops along the journey was when the “3 Tenorinas” performed “You Light Up My Life” a benefit at “The Masonic Lodge & Catfish Farm” and the “3 Village Tenors” performed “YMCA” at “The Mudcat Saloon.”

Blake Davidson (L), Dinny McGuire, Alex Bumpas and Matthew Lord performing the shows finale "Nessun Dorma.."

A major change in the show this year is its second half and WOW what a wonderful change it is. When the curtain closes on the first half it closes on 3 Redneck Tenors. When it rises for the second half, it rises on the shows three stars appearing as themselves, with the red neck persona nowhere evident , as they sing the “Impossible Dream.” They introduce themselves and interact with the audience as they perform a variety of music ranging from Broadway to their powerful rendition of “Lone Prairie and a classical duo including “Figaro” and the shows closing piece, the beautiful, inspirational and powerfully sung “Nessun Dorma.”

The magnificent voices of its stars is showcased with just the right amount of “themed comedy” in the first half and explodes into an entirely different entertainment experience in the second half. What a delightful, personable and entertaining show. If you have never seen this show, don’t miss it and, if you have seen it before, but not this year, you owe it to yourself to see it again.

Silver Dollar City adds $10 million world record setting coaster thrill

Construction is well along on Silver Dollar City's newest thrill ride "Outlaw Run."

BRANSON, Mo., August 22, 2012  An article entitled “Thrilling $10 million ‘Outlaw’ to entertain at Silver Dollar City,” appearing on line August 18 in Branson.Com/News, reports that, starting in the Spring of 2013, guests to Branson’s most popular paid attraction, the 1880s styled theme park Silver Dollar City, will be able to ride on “the world’s most daring wood coaster ride called ‘Outlaw Run.'” It will join Silver Dollar City’s other world class coaster rides, “PowderKeg, a compressed air-launch coaster that accelerates from 0 to 53 MPH in just 2.8 seconds and “WildFire,” a 66 mile per hour multi-looping steel coaster.

Brad Thomas, senior vice president, Silver Dollar City Attractions said, “Our Silver Dollar City fans told us they wanted a new thrill attraction, and we were determined to create a world-class experience even they couldn’t imagine.” The $10 million “‘Outlaw Run’ is a  first-of-its-kind ride” that sets several world firsts for wood coasters. Its “record-breaking 3 inversions, with a 720-degree (double) barrel roll and a 153-degree outside banked turn” and its initial 162 foot 81 degree drop is a world firsts for a wood coaster. At speeds of up to 68 miles per hour, as it takes riders on a 2,937 foot ride in just 1 minute and 27 seconds, “Outlaw Run” is the world’s second fastest wood coaster.

As might be expected from its name, “Outlaw Run” is themed around the stagecoach travels of the old west with its passengers going “on a journey of unexpected drops, thrilling twists and rolling inversions” as they pass through “a storied place where civility is waning and outlaws may lurk.” In keeping with that theme, passengers boarding the coasters two 24 passenger “trains” will experience their thrilling adventure riding aboard the custom-designed “stagecoach” trains of Silver Dollar City’s Western Missouri Stagecoach Company. “All generations will enjoy this bold and daring ride where the ‘good guys always win, leaving the bad guys in the dust,” Thomas added.

A “legendary” Branson entertainment experience just keeps getting better and better

The Blues Brothers performed by Justin Clark and Bucky Heard.

BRANSON, Mo., August 17, 2012 — In a previous review of this show this writer said, “Saying the Legends in Concert Show is just another tribute show is like saying the ‘Kentucky Derby’ is just another horse race. There are horse races and there is the ‘Kentucky Derby.’ There are tribute shows and there is the ‘Legends in Concert Show.’” After seeing the Legends in Concert on August 11, all that can be said is, “Its only gotten better, don’t miss this show if you want to see one of the most unique and entertaining shows in Branson.”

The foundation of the show, is celebrity impersonators recreating legendary superstar performers. Each recreation of these legendary superstars is a wonderful artistic performance incorporating the voice, mannerisms and looks of the star being recreated which is fabulous on its own. When combined with the rest of the shows cast, great production and choreography the result is no less than a “legendary” entertainment experience.

While acknowledging that the stars of the show are the “Legends” performing, it is the combination of their performances and the versatility and talent of the band and the shows dancers and vocalists that help make it such an outstanding entertainment experience. It makes no difference if it’s the music and performance style of Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, the Blues Brothers, Michael Jackson, or Elvis, these talented instrumentalists, dancers and singers adapt to that music and style seamlessly, adding an additional element of reality and enjoyment to each of the “Legends” performances. Although apparent throughout the show, perhaps nowhere was it more obvious than during William Hall’s recreation of “Michael Jackson.” It was amazing!

The “Legends in Concert Band is composed of Kevin Allen, Guitar/Band Leader; Lyman Clark, Keyboard; Eddie Howard, Drums and Brian Zerbee, Bass Guitar. The “Legends in Concert Dancers” are Dance Captain Stephanie Drey, Elisha Conner, Jamie Curry Cindy Dardas, Larry Miller, and Stephanie Richardson. Conner and Richardson also do an excellent job in providing the vocal backup for many of the shows numbers.

William Hall during his outstanding performance of Michael Jackson.

The typical Legends in Concert show features five recreations. Two of them, the “Blues Brothers,” portrayed by Bucky Heard and Justin Clark and “Elvis Presley” portrayed by Dean Z are Branson based and are in every show. The other three come from a constantly evolving cast of “super star legends.” Appearing in the show I saw, and until September 2, are Annika Weaver as “Faith Hill,” Zach Parrish as “Tim McGraw” and William Hall as “Michael Jackson.”

Each of the “Legends” did a mini concert “set,” consisting of four to six hits from the careers of the superstars they were impersonating, complete with its own costuming, musical arrangements and choreography. This writer’s personal favorite number from each “set” was Faith Hill’s medley including “This Kiss” and “The Way You Love Me;” Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying;” the Blues Brother’s “Shout,” Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream.”

The duets of “Let’s Make Love” and “It’s Your Love,” by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were beautiful and the way they were worked into the production during each of their separate sets added yet another pleasant surprise to an already wonderful show. The energy and excitement of the Blues Brothers’ performance is special and a great way to end the first half of the show. Speaking of energy and excitement, the performance of Michael Jackson was a super way to start the second half of the show. In this writer’s opinion, the back to back performances of the “Blues Brothers” and “Michael Jackson,” with its accompanying choreography, costuming and involvement from the Legends In Concert Dancers and Band was a unique joy to experience and nothing short of extraordinary.

The synergy and excitement of this show, resulting from the combination of the “superstars” impersonators, the band, dancers, colorful costuming and great production provides Branson audiences with a unique and exceptional entertainment experience. For additional information or tickets for Legends in Concert or any of Branson’s other shows, attractions and activities or for lodging arrangements please contact the Branson Tourism Center, one of Branson’s largest and most respected vacation planning services. Three Branson attractions unique in the world?

Unique view the beauty of the Ozarks and Table Rock Lake from the top of one of Silver Dollar City's world class coasters,"Wildfire."

BRANSON, Mo., August 12, 2012 — Branson is one of the most popular tourist destinations in America and is called by some the ‘Live music show capital of the world,'”said Annette Wood, Director of Group Sales for the Branson Tourism Center. “Branson entertains upwards of eight million visitors annually with its combination of live shows, pristine lakes, natural Ozark Mountain beauty, shopping, other activities and has dozens of varied, wonderful and exciting attractions” she added.

The definition of the term “attraction” is very broad, encompassing “any person or thing that attracts or is intended to attract” and could cover just about every show, activity and celebrity in Branson. In terms of destinations, travel and Branson, the term is usually used to describe a thing or activity that people enjoy doing while at a destination. That said, excluding Branson’s almost 100 live shows, as this writer reflected on Wood’s statement he wondered, “Comparatively speaking, which of Branson’s dozens of attractions are the most unique, not only to Branson, but, possibly, in the world?” Based on living in Branson for the past 26 years and being blessed with experiencing most of what Branson has to offer he believes that the three attractions listed below should be considered:

Silver Dollar City – The award winning 1880’s styled theme park is Branson oldest and most popular paid attraction, is noted for its world class festivals, rides, attractions, shows, unique shops, craftsmen demonstrating skills in pioneer crafts, great food and much more. One of the features that  makes Silver Dollar City special is that the park has been seamlessly blended into the surrounding natural beauty of the Ozarks so as to become a part of it.

That alone could be enough to to put it on the list. When it is factored in with the fact that Silver Dollar City is the home of a National Natural Landmark, the spectacular natural wonder, “Marble Cave,” its uniqueness in Branson and as a theme park anywhere is assured.

Shepherd of the Hills Historic Homestead Tour – The publication of Harold Bell Wright’s classic novel, “The Shepherd of the Hills,” in 1907 is credited with the start of tourism in the Ozarks. Among other things, the tour of the Shepherd of the Hills Homestead takes its guests through a portion of the Ozarks that Harold Bell Wright traveled and experienced as he wrote his epic novel and upon which it is based.

The tour also goes behind the scenes of the spectacular Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Play, which would also be on this list if it were not a “show;” Inspiration Tower and a visit to the original home of the novel’s main characters, “Old matt’s Cabin,” which still stands in its original location and is listed on the National Historic Registry.

Main Street Lake Cruises Lake Queen Sightseeing Cruise – At first blush there is nothing unique about taking a sightseeing cruise on a lake aboard a river boat, paddle wheel replica, show boat, catamaran, luxury yacht or any other type of boat and there are a number of destination cities that offer such cruises. What makes it unique is “Lake Taneycomo” itself and what it provides.

The lake is a long, extremely narrow impoundment of the White River, a southerly flowing river, as it runs north before turning south towards its eventual intersection with the Mississippi River. Because it so closely parallels the original narrow banks of the river which runs underneath it, each cruise presents a unique and unparalleled opportunity for cruise passengers to see and experience firsthand how the Ozark Mountains were formed, from the top down, as they cruise by the very bluffs from which they were hewn. Add to that the opportunity to feel the same excitement early riverboat passengers felt as they travelled the White River prior to its impoundment in 1912; see Bald Eagles, deer, Great Blue Herons and other wild life and birds up close and become a part of a kaleidoscope of beautiful constantly changing Ozark scenery that is so close one feels they can touch it and its uniqueness becomes apparent.

As Branson Tourism Center’s Wood pointed out earlier, Branson “has dozens of varied, wonderful and exciting attractions.” This list is just one man’s opinion of three of Branson’s attractions that he believes are truly unique. Click here for  a link to many of Branson’s most popular attractions with scheduling, ticket, information, videos, pictures and other information. One thing is for sure, in terms of all that it has to offer, Branson is truly one of the most fun filled, exciting and “unique” travel destinations in the world.

Labor Day in Branson – An exciting “informal” end of the summer outdoor season

White Water's iconic seven story multi-slide thrill ride "Kalani Towers."

BRANSON, Mo., August 9, 2012 — “Although, in terms of temperatures, it seems like it’s been an ‘eternal’ Summer all year, the long Labor Day Weekend is generally construed to be the ‘informal’ end of the Summer Season,” said Tammy Johnson, the Director of Operations for the Branson Tourism Center. “It is typically the ‘last hurrah’ for families to enjoy the excitement, fun and adventure of all that outdoor Summer activities have to offer and will run from September 1 through 3 this year,” she added.

From its three lakes and outdoor activities from hiking, biking, boating, fishing, laying on the beach, beach volleyball, golfing, zip lining and many others, Branson provides a unique mosaic of outdoor activities that is unrivaled anywhere. When that is combined with everything else that Branson offers, almost a hundred live shows, firework displays, world class shopping, theme parks and attractions and so much more. It’s hard to imagine a place that will offer more excitement, fun and entertainment than Branson over the Labor Day Weekend. In fact, not only over the Labor Day Weekend, but anytime, it’s hard to imagine a place that offers families more to share together than Branson offers.

In terms of outdoor things to do, although the activities may vary, many people come to Branson to just escape and relax in the simple natural beauty of its Ozark Mountains and enjoy one of its lakes. That will be no different over the Labor Day Weekend as Branson visitors enjoy what is typically one of the last big “lake weekends” on either Table Rock Lake or Lake Taneycomo to swim, boat, fish or participate in a myriad of other water sports and aquatic activities.

Another way people enjoy the beauty of Branson’s Lakes is by taking a cruise. Table Rock Lake, offers dinner and lunch cruises on the Showboat Branson Belle combining a lake cruise with a wonderful meal and its ” Made In America” show. On Lake Taneycomo, which runs right by Branson Landing, Main Street Lake Cruises provides daily sightseeing cruinses on its river boat paddle wheel replica, the Lake Queen and dinner cruises on the 100 foot luxury yacht Landing Princess. Its cruises provide a unique view of a side of Branson Landing and its magnificent fire and light show spectacular and the opportunity to see wild life such as Bald Eagles, Osprey, deer, the Great Grey Heron as well as vistas and bluff formations that most people never get to see.

Nothing symbolizes outdoor water and fun in Branson more than White Water, southwest Missouri’s largest water park, with its millions of gallons of water and fun, the “Aloha River at Hula Hula Bay” and its iconic seven story multi-slide thrill ride “Kalani Towers.” The long Labor Day weekend will be the last weekend for White Water’s 2012 season. Silver Dollar City, Branson’s award winning 1880s styled theme park, which will be celebrating the final days of its Southern Gospel Picnic, is also noted for its many outdoor activities and its seasonal water themed rides such as the “American Plunge,” “RiverBlast” and “Lost River of the Ozarks.”

Tee of Par 4 10th hole at Pointe Royale Golf Course.

Even with the record breaking heat of this summer major Branson Golf Courses such as Brason Creek, Murder Rock, Pointe Royale, Thousand Hills and Payne Stewart are in excellent shape and ready for the enjoyment of Branson’s Labor Day Weekend visitors. Although weather dependent, most of Branson’s golf courses are available for play on a year round basis.

Although not classified as either a “summer” or “outdoor” activity, as the majority of them are all year round, Branson’s retail stores, shopping and outlet malls as well as the majority of its specialty shops will be open over the Labor Day Weekend to ensure that Branson visitors get to experience the fabulous shopping for which it is known. Among many others, this includes Branson’s unique specialty shops, including Historic Downtown Branson, the Grand Village, Imax Complex and other areas all over Branson; its two major outlet malls, the Tanger Outlet Center and The Shoppes at Branson Meadows and its major shopping mall, Branson Landing.

Johnson points out that one of the nice things about Branson’s outdoor activities is their closeness, not only to each other, but to Branson’s other attractions, live shows, shopping and everything else that it offers. One minute you could be fighting a lunker trout or playing a round of golf on a championship golf course and, relatively speaking, the next you could be sitting in a theatre watching one of Branson’s great live shows, having a world class shopping experience, watching a potter work an artist pain or enjoying any one of the many exciting and interesting activities Branson offers.

From the Branson Titanic Museum Attraction boarding passengers as it remembers the 100th year anniversary of the sinking of the great ship to the vast majority of its 100 shows, attractions, restaurants and everything else that makes Branson the unique entertaining world class destination it is, it’s hard to imagine a more fun filled, exciting or entertaining place to spend the Labor Day weekend than in Branson. Branson Tourism Center’s (BTC) Johnson advises that Labor Day Weekend in Branson is one of the busiest of the year and advises making advance reservations for things like shows, lodging, tee times etc. Please call BTC through its toll free number, 1-800-785-1550, for more information on Branson’s Labor Day Weekend activities, tickets for Branson’s shows and attractions or for lodging arrangements.

The Shoji Tabuchi Show – a spectacular world class Branson experience

Shoji Tabuchi performing "In The Garden."

BRANSON, Mo., August 2, 2012 — In a town called the “Live music show capital of the world,” there is no one individual who is the very embodiment of the spirit and reality of what that means more than the legendary Shoji Tabuchi. Shoji has been entertaining Branson audiences for more than three decades, over two of which have been in the magnificent Shoji Tabuchi Theatre, designed and built specifically for him and the spectacular production show that he and his family presents.

For many shows, just having a violinist/fiddler and consummate entertainer such as Shoji along with a live band would be enough, but the opportunity to watch a performance of the Shoji Tabuchi Show last weekend, demonstrated that is not the case with this show. Dancers, vocalists and magnificent costumes, sets, choreography and production are seamlessly woven in with Shoji’s extraordinary talents to present a beautiful, unique and exciting entertainment spectacle without equal in Branson.

As would be expected, the show stars the incomparable fiddle playing and personality of Shoji Tabuchi. Ok, so it has some pretty good violin playing too because, as Shoji points out, “‘They’ are actually the same instrument; what makes them different is how you ‘fiddle around’ with it.” From the time he makes his unusual entrance onto the stage until his last number in the show, from Texas swing and Boogie Woogie, to Broadway, classical and fiddle standards such as “The Orange Blossom Special,” presented as only Shoji can, he provides a fiddle/violin entertainment experience that is without equal in Branson and, perhaps, anywhere.

What a joy to sit and listen to Shoji play. Whether it’s the classic Patsy Cline hit “Crazy,” “Unchained Melody,” “Memories” from the Broadway hit Cats, playing in a duet, as his daughter Christina sings her original song, “Living in Fear” or one of the many other numbers he plays, the performance is absolutely amazing! This writers three “Shoji” favorites were his version of “Hawaii Five O,” “In the Garden” and “Unchained Melody.”

Shoji and Christina during their performance of the shows patriotic finale.

If there was only Shoji that would be enough, but there’s so much more. Dorothy Tabuchi, Shoji’s wife, is the show’s producer. From Shoji’s dramatic entrance, Mardi Gras Parades through the aisles, trains moving across the stage to giant Japanese Taiko drums, Mary Poppins flying through the air, magnificent dramatic sets, dancers, singers and a great live orchestra, she has produced one of the most unique, entertaining and fascinating shows most people will ever experience.

Christina Lingo Tabuchi, Shoji’s daughter, is an accomplished vocalist and dancer adding yet another dynamic and entertaining element to the show. Her rendition of the Adele hit “Rolling in the Deep” and the duet of her original song ” Living in Fear,” with her singing and Shoji playing the fiddle were this writers personal favorites.

The combination of Shoji’s talent and personality, with that of Christina, his orchestra, singers and dancers, some of the most elaborate sets and beautiful costuming on any Branson stage and production and choreography to match, results in an entertainment extravaganza that is a joy to see, hear and experience. The Shoji Tabuchi show is a “musical cornucopia of talent, color, action, excitement and spectacle” that is a magnificent and unique world class entertainment experience that should not be missed.

For additional information or tickets for the Shoji Tabuchi Show or any of Branson’s other shows and attractions or for lodging arrangements please contact the Branson Tourism Center by calling their toll free number 1-800-785-1550.

Silver Dollar City's Southern Gospel Picnic.

BRANSON, Mo., July 30, 2012 — “Fun, adventure and excitement are a normal part of a day at Branson’s most popular paid attraction,” said Annette Wood, Director of Group Sales for the Branson Tourism Center. “Add in the soul stirring inspirational sound of some of the finest Southern Gospel Music in the land and a picnic, Silver Dollar City style, and the result is ‘America’s biggest Southern Gospel Picnic,'” she continued.

Silver Dollar City‘s Southern Gospel Picnic is the shortest of Silver Dollar City’s seven world class festivals, running just 11 days, from August 24 through September 3. Yet, it is an event eagerly anticipated by Southern Gospel music fans and is a great opportunity, for those who have not had the opportunity to hear it before, to experience it at its “uplifting soul-stirring” best performed by some of the finest Southern Gospel performers and groups in the Nation.

During the Southern Gospel Picnic in excess of 40 of the top Southern Gospel performers and groups will perform hundreds of performances throughout the park. Although subject to change these include, among others, Jason Crabb, 2012 Dove Award Male Vocalist of the Year & Artist of the Year; The Perrys, winners of a 2012 Dove Award for the Southern Gospel Song of the Year “Celebrate Me Home;” The Isaacs, winners of a 2012 Dove Award for the Bluegrass Song of the Year “Momma’s Teaching the Angels How to Sin;” Karen Peck & New River winners of 2012 Dove Awards for Country Song of the Year “Good Things Are Happening” & Southern Gospel Album of the Year “Reach Out” and dozens more.  Although not a musical performance, it should be noted that Christian speaker and humorist Dennis Swanberg will be appearing on September 1.

The Southern Gospel Nights concert series will be held each evening, weather permitting, at the park’s 4,000 seat Echo Hollow Amphitheater® starting at 6 PM each night, except for September 1st and 2nd when the starting time is 7 PM. Although each concert will feature a different Southern Gospel group each of the Southern Gospel Nights concerts will be hosted by KWFC-FM radio personality Dave Taylor.

On Sunday August 26 and September 2, special Sunday worship services will be presented featuring guest speakers and performers. David Ring, motivational speaker and pastor will speak on August 26 and Hosea Bilyeu, pastor and performer along with the “Hosea Bilyeu Family” will be featured on September 2.

“And what would a picnic be without food?” Branson Tourism Center‘s Wood rhetorically asks. In addition to all the delicious food normally available throughout the park the Southern Gospel Picnic will feature “The House of Chicken & Fixin’s,” located inside the parks “Reunion Hall.” The “picnic menu” features Silver Dollar City’s “famous golden Southern Fried Chicken” and other items including “succulent Apple Butter Glazed Chicken, delicious Orange Glazed Chicken, Hickory – Smoked Chicken, moist and tender Slow Smoked Pulled Pork all served with all of your favorite picnic fixins.”

As is the case with all of Silver Dollar City’s world class festivals, all of  the special activities, music and events of the Southern Gospel Picnic, are in addition to all the adventure and excitement that the international award winning 1880’s’ styled theme park offers on a daily basis. This includes two dozen rides and attractions including “Half Dollar Holler,” the million dollar play area for kids; 100 resident craftsmen, its shops and other unique activities.

Wood points out that each Silver Dollar City admission sold by Branson Tourism Center includes two days admission for the price of one and suggests advance reservations for lodging and shows, particularly over the long Labor Day weekend. For additional information on Silver Dollar City, the Southern Gospel Picnic or any of Branson’s other shows and attractions or for lodging arrangements please feel free to contact the Branson Tourism Center by calling their toll free number 1-800-785-1550.

BRANSON, Mo., July, 29, 2012 — The third of three groups of American Idol® Finalists performing in the American Idol® Finalists In The Finalists Live show continues the high quality, exciting and sizzling entertainment experience provided by the first two groups and will be performing in Branson at the Andy Williams Moon River Theatre through August 18th. As was the case with their predecessors, this group of extremely talented nationally recognized American Idol® Finalists, Reuben Studdard – 2003 Winner, Bo Bice – Runner-Up in Season 4, Vonzell Solomon – 3rd Place in Season 4, Katie Stevens – from Season 9 and RJ Helton – from Season 1, gives Branson show goers a performance that demonstrates, from their first note to their last, exactly why they are American Idol® Finalists.

As I sat there watching the show, I could not help but appreciate how much the live band and background vocalists contributed to the overall enjoyment of the show. What makes it even more amazing is that they have had to prepare for, and work with, 15 different performers, concerts, and styles of music in such a short period of time. One can only imagine the effort that has gone into their contribution to the show. The band consists of Ricki Holmes, Music Director, Keyboards; Doug Clifford, Drums; Matt Skates, Bass; Adam Johnston, Guitar and Will Clark, Keyboards. The background vocalists are Shelia Davis, Jerry Pollock and Heather Peterson with the vocal coordination and arrangement done by Jana King Evans.

Pete Peterkin, who was a Season 4 finalist on “America’s Got Talent ®” opens the show demonstrating why he was referred to on the show as the “Rock and Roll President.” After doing his impression of President Obama he does some very impressive and entertaining impressions of a number of rock and roll and other stars including Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Ray Charles, Michael Jackson and others. Pete’s recollection of how he helped Johnny Mathis develop his singing style was not only funny, but a great impression of Mathis who will be doing his Christmas Show in Branson on November 16 and 17. Pete is personable, funny, relates well to the audience and is great at his impressions not only vocally, but instrumentally. It’s a wonderful way to open up the show and gets the audience primed and ready to “party” with the Finalists.

Katie Stevens opening set gets the crowd "feeling good."

Before performing their individual concerts, all five finalists open the show and are each featured in two opening numbers, “I Gotta Feeling” and “Get The Party Started.” “The party” gets jump-started by 19 year old Katie Stevens performing a powerful and energetic rendition of Adele’s “Rollin in the Deep.” If the audience reaction is any indication, her performance of “Feeling Good,” from the musical “The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd” really did have them “feeling good” and her performance of “Who You Are” was as inspiring as it was beautifully sung and was this writers favorite from her set. This is one talented young lady who got “the party started in grand style.

Next up was RJ Helton who started his set off with an energetic performance of the Stevie Wonder hit “Superstition.” A highlight of his set was his performance of an original song from his first album, “Real Life,” entitled “Love Song” that he wrote to God in thanks for all that He has done for him. That, coupled with his performance of “My Devotion,” in the opinion of this writer, provided one of the singularly most inspirational and beautiful musical moments of the show.

Vonzell Solomon, has the energy of the “Energizer Bunny” on steroids and a voice to match. From her opening number Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love,” through the Whitney Houston classic “I Have Nothing” to her beautiful and poignant performance of her original song, “Half a Heart,” written when her heart was broken, this amazing artist demonstrates a range of styles, stage presence and vocal quality that shows not only what it takes to be an American Idol®  Finalist, but place in the top three. What an outstanding way to take the show to its intermission.

Ruben Studdard showing why he won American Idol®.

The second half of the show starts with Bo Bice, the runner up to Carrie Underwood in Season 4. His set includes a variety of styles from hard rock to the beautiful “Real Thing,” the inspirational “You Take Yourself with You” and “Sweet Home Alabama” with a guest “feature” from his fellow Alabamian Ruben Studdard. It is absolutely amazing the way Bo transitions from performing hard rock to the hauntingly beautiful performance of “You Take Yourself with You,” with its powerful and inspirational message, while taking his audience along on the wonderful journey.

The last performer was Ruben Studdard who demonstrated the “smoothly soothing vocal style” that not only won him the title of “American Idol®” in 2003, but demonstrates why Gladys Knight nicknamed him the “Velvet Teddy Bear.” Whether it his mama’s favorite song, “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,” a Luther Vandross song, “Only for One Night,” or his first single the Westlife hit, “Flying Without Wings” Ruben’s performance is one of those rare entertainment gems that will be remembered long after the performance is over. His vocal talent and ability to have the audience vested in his performance, from the first note of his performance, was a joy to experience.

This excellent show closes with all five Finalists joining on stage to sing “Life in a Northern Town” and “R-O-C-K in the USA.” Don’t miss this opportunity to see these talented nationally recognized American Idol® Finalists perform in this exceptional and amazing show through August 18.
